Neil got me a prezzie the other day…
a gorillapodSLR from Joby!
I have a much smaller and less capable tripod for my point-n-shoot Cybershot, but as I’ve been getting to know our bigger camera – the Sony Cybershot DSC-F707 – that little portable tripod just cannot hold the larger camera’s weight. Enter the gorillapodSLR. Meatier than it’s little brother gorillapod, the recently released SLR version can hold a camera or camcorder up to 1100g (2.5 lbs) and true to it’s name, the gorillapod can grip like a big monkey onto whatever uneven surface you need to get the shot. My little bendy tripod was good, but this! fantastic. Me and my monkey are headed to London today, where – weather permitting – I’ll be putting it to the test.
Here are two shots (from my cameraphone) of the gorillapodSLR in action. (The Slinky is just there because I like Slinkies.) I encourage you to see the wacky ways Joby shows this tripod in use on their site -¬†it’s fantastic!
Thank you so much, Neil!

Cool device! Might have to get me one of those. Need to check the fully loaded weight of the D2H though, as that might be just on the limit. Do let us know how you get on with it in the wild.
– Neil.
It is a real cutie! I’ve not been out with it yet, but this afternoon may look promising for a quick tour around the neighbourhood… (English weather permitting!)
